Atmospheric fairy lights – in colorful or warm white – are part of Christmas for many. myHOMEBOOK editor Katharina Regenthal reveals the colors of the rest of the festive decorations this year.
The holiday season is quickly drawing near, and stores are brimming with Christmas decorations. Many are beginning to bring the holiday spirit into their homes with festive decor. This year’s color palette offers a variety of options to suit everyone’s taste. The timeless red and green hues remain staples, yet they will be paired in innovative combinations come 2024. Additionally, entirely new colors will emerge that may not have previously graced your Christmas decor.
Classics like red and green are here to stay
The classic Christmas colors red and green will continue to be popular in 2024 and will probably never go completely out of fashion during the festive season. For those who adore these colors yet seek to avoid an overly Santa-esque vibe, this year offers more sophisticated shades to choose from.
For the festive season, choose a deep, dark wine red and combine it with a classic dark forest green. Alternatively, a lighter sage or pine green is also suitable. The wine red becomes more present with a light cream, sand, or beige. The same applies to the dark forest green. The dark green also looks less classic but particularly elegant with a strong berry tone.
Festive dove blue
For those seeking an alternative to green and red, a Christmas color poised to make a significant impact in 2024 is an excellent choice. We’re talking about a soft dove blue that comes in both lighter and darker shades. If you want your Christmas decorations in this color to be classic and rather restrained, then choose a wintery white, a dark greige, or a strong chocolate brown.
It becomes a little more festive with a splash of red, for example, in the candles or small paper stars hanging from branches in a vase. The combination of dove blue, forest green, and midnight blue also creates a cozy atmosphere. This can easily be achieved with a blue tablecloth, green fir branches as decoration, and midnight blue napkins.
Blood orange to terracotta
Instead of the classic red, you can also opt for a strong shade of orange for the 2024 Christmas colors. This color manifests in a spectrum of shades, ranging from blood orange to terracotta, offering endless possibilities. This shade is best combined with natural nuances such as earth tones. Nuts are ideal as a complementary decoration.
But orange also shows its festive side at Christmas with a dark wine red or a strong forest green. If you can’t do without glitter, it’s best to choose a warm shade of gold.
Pink Christmas
Those desiring a more vibrant holiday palette will find their match in this year’s Christmas color trends. This is because the trend of combining red and pink also makes an appearance at Christmas. The harmony is especially striking when multiple shades are blended together. For example, mix a wine red with a strong carmine red, a soft rosé, and a bright pink. Such a mix is particularly easy to achieve with different candles.
Things are a little softer if you opt for lighter shades. A light pink can be wonderfully combined with a warm cream shade. Add a light yellow and a few red accents, and you will have a refreshing Christmas decoration.
Pure nature
Opting for a ‘pure nature’ theme with earthy tones will create a less opulent but equally festive atmosphere for Christmas 2024. A variation of earthy tones, dark chocolate brown, and soft cream or winter white will give your home a homely ambiance. It only becomes truly Christmassy with accents in gold or copper. If you don’t want to do without color, add small splashes of orange, for example, with dried orange slices or large oranges in the fruit bowl.
