As one year draws to a close, the trends of the next are also just around the corner. Within the industry, more and more interior design professionals are presenting their predictions for 2025. myHOMEBOOK author and interior designer Odett Schumann has also taken a look around and reveals what we can expect from the interior trends for 2025. As is so often the case, we will encounter some familiar things in our living spaces, while other colors, shapes, and patterns will come as a surprise and take time to get used to. Other styles, on the other hand, we will fall in love with immediately.

1. Interior trend: Furniture and walls in brown and beige

When it comes to furnishing, brown tones are not usually the first choice when it comes to a new coat of paint on the wall. In general, this color only appears in the living room in the form of a leather sofa or solid wooden table. Not so in 2025: brown will be seen in a wide variety of shades on furniture and walls.

Nuancen in Beige und Braun geben 2025 maßgeblich den Ton beim Einrichten an.
By no means old-fashioned: Shades of beige and brown will set the tone for interior design in 2025, but above all, in style.

What clearly resonates with this interior trend for 2025 is a certain amount of nostalgia. The world is constantly changing, and it feels like it is changing faster every year. This makes us long for the “good old days” more and more often. But perhaps this is also a kind of counter-trend to the increasingly digital and AI-driven reality of life that we are confronted with on a daily basis.

Earth tones such as brown, beige, and gray give us a feeling of calm and stability, as well as security and safety. The closeness to nature is what appeals. What’s more, there is plenty of (visual) warmth in the living space, as the various natural tones will have a slightly reddish undertone, sometimes even tending towards terracotta. In a way, such an ambiance will feel like a gentle embrace. From caramel and taupe to cognac and cinnamon through to chestnut and mocha, brown in 2025 shows all its facets in all their glory. And not just in decoration but as the main player in the living room.

2. Interior trend: Minimalism reloaded

This interior trend for 2025 is not a newcomer and has already been ridiculed or even thought to be dead by some in the past. However, this is by no means the case, as the enthusiasm for minimalism is still unbroken among many people – and the number is growing! And why not? In addition to the liberating effect of significantly reducing one’s own needs, there is also more space for the essentials – both in the home and in life!

So get rid of all the superfluous and go for simple, organic shapes, a discreetly neutral choice of colors, natural materials, and only the things that are really needed in everyday life. Long-time fans of the trend speak of a newfound lightness and more clarity and focus in their lives. When implemented correctly, minimalism also has an extremely aesthetic side to it. And even if it still sounds unimaginable to some people, this interior trend for 2025 is also very cozy despite its reduction. With this in mind, welcome to the new simplicity!

3. Interior trend: Corners and edges versus round shapes

Corners and edges are slowly returning to the living room. After several years of round designs characterizing and shaping the living space, it may now become a little more “boxy” again. This interior trend for 2025 will certainly provide a pleasant balance of angular and rounded shapes.

Isn’t it the same with corners in furniture as it is with people – they give a room more character? So make sure you have a balanced mix of both styles in the coming year. This will make your living space much more exciting, I promise! Here is a sofa in the shape of a crescent, and right next to it is a sideboard reminiscent of a large cuboid.

The round belongs to the square! And so, in the coming year, furniture with edges and organic shapes will once again become more common.

In combination with dark woods – preferably domestic quality cherry or walnut – which are also in high demand again at the moment, the new old trend takes on a kind of dramatic component. At the same time, such a straightforward furniture design looks like it has been brought to the point. The look of the room is clear, chic, and modern.

4. Interior trend: Purple instead of red and blue

Violett an der Wand als Interior Trend 2025
Unconventional and yet so elegant: blue and red are followed in 2025 by violet, a mixed color that gives the living room a special touch.

After blue, in particular the famous Yves Klein blue (indigo), and finally red, another primary color, have been abundantly present in living spaces over the past three years, their secondary color will set the tone for furnishing in the coming year. Violet, especially eggplant, is only half a departure from both primary colors and is instead a tasteful compromise.

Admittedly, the violet color range is not to everyone’s taste. It is, therefore, highly likely that many red and blue tones will continue to feature in interior design. At the same time, it is fair to admit that eggplant is a shade that comes across as extremely sophisticated. So, if you like classic elegance in your home, one of the color trends for 2025 is a good choice.

5. Interior trend: Chrome, shine and shimmer

Chromvase: Glänzende und verspiegelte Oberflächen sind auch 2025 noch gefragt.
Chrome is here to stay: Shiny and mirrored surfaces will continue to be in demand in living spaces in 2025.

Chrome has been back in the home for almost two years now, after almost several decades of avoiding the metallic look. It was still too reminiscent of the 90s. However, the shame was finally overcome, and last year, in addition to chrome lamps, bowls, and candle holders, people have now also ventured into furniture with mirrored surfaces.

And it is precisely this shine and shimmer that is set to remain an interior trend in 2025. The silver touch is particularly effective in the living room when combined with cream-colored fabrics or dark wood. The best example: an armchair in light bouclé with solid walnut legs is ideally complemented by a mirrored cube-shaped table.

And why not? The chrome look looks timelessly elegant and also serves a practical purpose. This is because the mirrored surfaces skillfully reflect light, creating a magnifying effect – ideal for smaller rooms in particular! So, there’s no reason to say goodbye to this interior trend for the time being.

6. Interior trend: Furniture in color

Colorful furniture designs were already abundant in 2024. From soft bleu to the Pantone color of the year, peach fuzz, to lush grass green – no color was shied away from. What seemed unthinkable for a long time and was only reserved for walls or accessories has now spread to coffee tables, sideboards, and even entire walls of shelves. And because this trend has injected a whole load of energy and cheerfulness into living spaces, it will clearly continue in 2025.

What’s more, this look will also inspire people here and there to get active and grab a bucket of paint. How about giving old furniture a new coat of paint or highlighting room elements such as trim and door frames?

7. Interior trend: The country house style is back

Der Landhaus-Look ist 2025 zurück.
Don’t be afraid of a little rustic charm in your home. In 2025, the modern country house style proves that it can be cozy and contemporary.

It’s quite likely that the country house look will also celebrate a revival as an interior trend in 2025. At least it would make sense. After all, more and more people are longing for peace and quiet in the constant hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is not uncommon for people to leave the hustle and bustle of city life for the countryside. Old houses are often moved into, renovated, and furnished in a vintage style with modern elements.

The enthusiasm for the traditional is there, and so tradition and craftsmanship are combined – just in a new interpretation. Bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms, in particular, are often furnished in a modern country house style. Home textiles with flounces, playful slipcovers, romantic floral decorations, and, finally, paneling on walls and whitewashed floors.

8. Interior trend: After the 80s come the 90s

Time has moved on. For a long time, past decades, especially the 80s, were a popular source of inspiration when it came to styling and furnishing. But that has now come to an end. The 90s are now following suit, and younger generations in particular – see Gen Z – are only too happy to take their cue from them.

In times of environmental crisis, it seems to be part of their self-image to rely on the existing rather than the new. For them, the 90s are the new vintage style. And that fits: Garish colors kiss furniture and walls, chrome furniture flashes, sculptural designs make for eye-catchers, and denim is not only worn on the legs but also celebrated in the living room. Here and there – in keeping with the country house look – the occasional cowhide joins in. And well, what would that unusual decade be without a bubbling lava lamp in the room?
