Labels are often difficult to remove from jars. myHOMEBOOK editor Katharina Regenthal tests three home remedies for removing labels.
Labels can be found on many objects – such as jam jars or newly purchased cups and plates. However, if you want to remove them, it can be difficult. No matter how much you rub, there is always residue left behind. Home remedies that everyone has in the kitchen are said to be helpful. Baking soda, lemon juice, and olive oil are often recommended. But how well do these household remedies really work to remove labels? myHOMEBOOK has tested three home remedies for removing labels.
Baking soda and water
To remove labels quickly, a paste made from baking soda and water is often recommended. To do this, add a packet of baking soda to a small bowl of water. Then, dip a cloth into the mixture and rub over the sticky label. Repeat this until all residue has been removed.
Lemon juice
Lemon juice is also regularly recommended for removing labels. You don’t need to dilute it; it can be applied directly to the cloth. Then, it’s a case of rubbing until the label is removed. You can also use a scraper or butter knife to help.
Olive oil
The third household remedy for removing labels is regular olive oil. Like lemon juice, this can also be applied undiluted directly to the cloth. Then, wipe over the label until it is completely removed.

Conclusion
But which household remedy is the most helpful and efficient for removing a label? Our test shows that all three home remedies for removing labels remove at least parts of the paper.
However, the mixture of water and baking soda had a hard time with the adhesive, and residues were still clearly visible.
The lemon juice was much more helpful, but we had to help a little with a scraper during our test to ensure that everything was really removed.
Our test winner is the third method, olive oil. This household remedy removed the label completely and required less force overall. Nevertheless, it should be noted that a little patience is required for all variants.
